Prostate carcinoma

We treat localized prostate carcinomas (Gleason score 6, 7a, or 7b; in exceptional cases, also Gleason score 8) with high precision using the gentlest method. The non-invasive, radiosurgical procedure minimizes the risk of side effects. Urinary incontinence, irritable bladder, or impairment of sexual function are virtually excluded. After a thorough review of the imaging findings, the tumor is precisely irradiated. The surrounding tissue is preserved.

Prostate carcinoma
The most common type of cancer in men occurs when prostate cells grow uncontrollably. This tumor usually grows slowly but can spread in advanced stages. Early detection is crucial, as it makes the chances of recovery particularly high.
Recurrent prostate carcinoma
An increase in PSA levels after surgery or conventional radiation therapy can indicate local recurrence in the prostate bed or distant recurrence with metastases. PSMA/PET/CT and MRI examinations reveal this. Using Cyberknife®, recurrences and metastases can be removed effectively, precisely, and gently.
Criteria for treatment with Cyberknife®
- Gleason score 6, 7a, and 7b (in special exceptions also 8): The Gleason score indicates the aggressiveness of the tumor.
- PSA level max. 20 ng/ml: The PSA level (prostate-specific antigen) provides information about the extent of the tumor.
- The tumor should be confined to the prostate, and the prostate capsule should be intact.
- The prostate volume should not exceed 80 ml for a successful Cyberknife® treatment.
Treatment process
The treatment is divided into preparation, irradiation, and aftercare; it is gentle and patient-friendly. What do all phases have in common? Patients can expect a higher quality of life than with conventional treatment methods.
Preparation
Cyberknife®'s robotic imaging technology ensures maximum precision by tracking the exact position of the tumor throughout the treatment. For this purpose, four small gold markers are inserted into the prostate shortly before therapy. The system recognizes these and targets them precisely as target points.
Irradiation
Treating the prostate is challenging because it can move unpredictably. Conventional radiation therapy cannot compensate for these movements. The Cyberknife® system, however, detects them in real-time and adjusts the irradiation within fractions of a second. The therapy is painless and completed in just three to five sessions.
Aftercare
Cyberknife® treatment causes only minor side effects and requires no recovery or rehabilitation measures. After therapy, follow-up appointments are scheduled where the urologist monitors the falling PSA level. Patients respond individually to the treatment: clinical experience shows high success rates with local control of over 97%.
