Recurrence in Cervical Cancer
Outpatient therapy that precisely and gently treats recurrences in cervical cancer.
In case of a recurrence of cervical cancer, treatment with Cyberknife® Technology can be an effective therapy option. The highly precise, non-invasive radiation allows for targeted treatment of tumor foci, while largely sparing surrounding healthy tissue.
After careful analysis of imaging findings, the radiation is precisely aligned to the tumor with millimeter accuracy. The treatment is performed on an outpatient basis, usually in a few sessions.
Areas of Application

Recurrence in Cervical Cancer
A recurrence of cervical cancer can occur after surgery or radiation therapy. Due to the precise radiation guidance, a high tumor dose can be applied, while sparing surrounding healthy tissue.

Locally Confined Tumor Foci in the Pelvis
For individual tumor foci in the pelvic area, treatment with Cyberknife® Technology can be a non-invasive option. The robot-assisted radiation enables highly precise treatment even in anatomically sensitive areas, such as near the bowel or bladder.

Metastases or Limited Tumor Spread
Cyberknife® Technology can also be used for individual metastases or limited tumor spread. In selected cases, effective local tumor control can be achieved.
Criteria for Cyberknife® Treatment
- Locally confined recurrence in the pelvic area
- Individual tumor foci or metastases
- No extensive metastasis
- Completed prior treatment (surgery or radiation therapy)
- Good general health
Course of Therapy
The treatment is divided into preparation, radiation, and aftercare, and is gentle and patient-friendly.
Preparation
Before starting treatment, imaging examinations such as CT, MRI, or PET-CT are performed. These serve to determine the exact location and extent of the tumor and to create an individualized treatment plan.
Radiation
The treatment is performed on an outpatient basis, usually in a single session of about 15 to 25 minutes. The tumor is irradiated with sub-millimeter precision. This maximally spares healthy tissue, and patients feel nothing.
Aftercare
After therapy, follow-up examinations are scheduled. For malignant tumors, this occurs after three months, and for benign tumors, after six months.

Alternative to Brachytherapy
Standard radiation therapy for cervical cancer often consists of external beam radiation combined with so-called brachytherapy, where the radiation source is placed directly near the tumor.
